Fin House, Willoughby
This home is all about access to daylight, easy-going living and spaces that delight.
Fin House is a renovated home for owners Hayley and Steve to grow into.
The self described ‘habitual over-caterer’s’ wanted to open up the back of their small, dark semi to create a bright and welcoming space for everyday living.
Our brief was to remedy a series of closed rooms that concertinaed down in scale from front to back. The plan is uncomplicated and rectilinear with generosity afforded in height.
The additional height captures formerly inaccessible daylight and opens up for cross-ventilation, both of which animate the space and make it a delight to occupy and inhabit.
Hayley & Steve described their deck as a gathering space for friends to enjoy a BBQ at sunset. Living spaces flow out seamlessly onto the new deck and their beautiful garden.
Rather than contrast old and new, Hayley & Steve challenged us to create a subtle addition that blended into the suburban fabric.
The resulting design is a backdrop to daily life, designed with care and intentionality the space works effortlessly to make simple things more enjoyable; such as opening a window, reading a book or entertaining friends.
Fin House is located on the traditional lands of the Cammeraygal people.
